Headlight switch broken.
 

I bought my car with a known broken headlight switch. Currently to operate the headlights I run a jumper wire from one terminal to another (in the headlight switch connector), and to illuminate my dash I have a toggle switch. (done by previous owner). Originally I just assumed the switch went bad and I would replace it later as money allows, however last night as I was "turning off my headlights" I noticed the wires on both my "headlight switch" and my "dash light switch" were pretty warm. I also noticed one of the female terminals in the HL connector has been previously hot. I haven't had the time to trace the wires back and make sure everything was ok, but until I get that time, I am struggling to come up with a good idea as to why that would be.... to much resistance somewhere in the wires?.....maybe loosely connected wires....? Any thoughts and/or suggestions before I purchase a new headlight switch?

also on a side note.. did they offer cruise control on these cars? Or is anyone running an aftermarket setup?

This car is a 1990 Honda Civic HB Si.

You can test the old switch with an ohmmeter. If the plastic around the terminals on the switch is also discolored from heat, both the switch and the plug should be replaced. The springs in the plug contacts will lose their temper from heat and it will never make good contact again (no matter how much you try to bend and "tighten" them). That will burn up your new switch.
