Heavy rains creating misfire, 94 Civic
 

Good morning. Twice now, after torrential rains here in Dallas my Civic misfires on at least one if not two cylinders under throttle. Both times I checked obvious problem areas, pulling plug wires to check for moisture in the wells, blowing them out with compressed air, removing distributor cap and checking for moisture, seeing none but blowing it out anyway, etc. etc. After sitting for a time the car would remedy itself. Note, I'm not swamping the car, but the roadways are pretty deep in water, say to the chin spoiler. When I open the hood the engine compartment is not obviously wet.

After heavy rain on Friday and a heavy miss, I left the hood open under a carport and after a full day the car ran fine even though it was raining outside. That tells me it isn't humidity related. This morning the car ran perfectly into work for 18 miles at speeds averaging 80 mph, until, after exiting the freeway I took a hard left turn at the ramp U and the car began to misfire again under throttle. That tells me water is still pooled somewhere and has 'sloshed' or been moved by the hard left turn.

Does anyone have a 'been there done that' story to tell me about when they found the definitive area that was getting wet, and what they did to conclusively dry it out to correct the problem?
