Help!!!!1994 honda civic cx
 

I have a 1994 civic cx hatchback. It has the 1.5 engine, with 120,000 miles. Over the summer the car would not start on hot days. I finally changed the fuel pump as recomended by a few mechanics. Now, my car dies while in neutral and hesitates while driving, but only when I have 1/4 tank of gas (starts right back up). No check engine light, and no problem when I have 1/4 or more tank of gas. After changing fuel pump I changed the fuel filter. anyideas. I have had some people tell me to replace the icv???

You may want to check the pressure regulator (see picture).

ok I will check that, but would that be effected by the level of gas?

You may not have the fuel pump installed properly. Appears the inlet may be set up wrong so it starts sucking air when the gas gets low.

First, please also consider what mk378 says as he is highly knowledgeable.

Second, yes, a higher gas level in the tank might compensate for borderline weak pressure provided by a faulty pressure regulator.

Ok had mechanic check the regulator . He said it was ok. He thinks the problem is the cam shaft sensor???? Claims he can ge the part for $80.00( inside distributor I guess). Put gas in the car yesterday and now it runs fine (till I get to 1/4 tank).

For what it's worth, faulty TDC/CRANK/CYL sensors in the distributor seem usually to be associated with the CEL being ON, and faults of these sensors cause misfiring or rough running (see picture). I wouldn't want to second guess a good mechanic, but does this fit well with the problems your car is experiencing?
