HELP!!!! crank pulley bolt stuck!

Hello, I am the proud owner of a 91 civic, which happens to be my first Honda. I had to replace the head gasket and decided to change the timing belt. Everything has easily disassembled ---except the crank pulley bolt...I can't get it to budge at all. I have tried a breaker bar, a pneumatic gun,...still no luck. I don't want to damage it....any suggestions???:D

RE: HELP!!!! crank pulley bolt stuck!

What I did after many searches here. Stick a piece of flat bar or round bar (steel) in between and have it rest underneath around the oil pan. Its a bitc$ but it does come off. Things I have bent doing it.
1/4" long extension
numerous bolts
large snap-on screwdriver.
Things I broke
numerous extension
bolts
sockets.
I had to literally jump on it to get it to turn.
But remember it does come out.

big chain wrench and a breaker bar with a pipe over it to make it longer

I had to use an impact socket, an impact extension, a 1/2" breaker bar, and 6-foot cheater. For those older pulleys, there are holes in it. I put two 2-inch bolts in non-adjacent holes, wedged a metal pipe between the bolts, the chassis, and the ground to hold the pulley.

The breaker bar alone didn't work for me.

That bolt is baisically one of the hardest bolts to take off.... it is torqued down quite hard from the factory... so the best way to get her off would be to use an air gun with sufficient psi (80-90psi).... if you don't have a gun, i would jam something between the flywheel and block(through the starter whole if trany still attached) and use the biggest breaker bar you have with the longest pole you can findto fit over it! lol.... and WD-40
good luck!

I cut a wedge out of a 2x4 and drove it between the pulley and the piece of frame or bracket right next to the pulley using a sledge. Then used a deep well socket on my breaker bar and impacted it using my sledge. got it off in less than 10 minutes including cutting the wedge. :D

They also make a tool that I have seen sold on Amazon that fits the giant hex shape of the pulley to hold it still that has an empty center to put your socket through.

A good 1/2 inch drive impact gun (500 ft-lb or more rating) should take it right out. Remember it is standard right-hand threaded, turn counterclockwise to loosen.

That Amazon tool doesn't work on all Civics, especially the older gens..
