Help failed smog because of HC (ppm).
I have a 1994 civic ex and I just took it in for the 4th time yesterday to get smog checked and it failed once again. Here are the changes made so far.Changed spark plugs, spark plug cables, distributor cap, rotor, oil change, run some injection fuel cleaner, a cat converter change to a walker 15800.Here it's what it comes back with:Test:

what are all the mods on your car. I dont know anything about smog cause i live in sc. But a list may be helpful to someone who knows about smog testing

Is the Check Engine Light (CEL) ON?
If so, retrieve the code as described here: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1901557 Regardless, you may want to check for an exhaust leak or a faulty primary O2 sensor. |
RE: Help failed smog because of HC (ppm).
My car has no mods except for a swap engine. I live in CA the pain in the ass state for emissions.
The check engine light is not on. I'll check for a exhaust leak I have also switched the O2 sensor sorry forgot to mention that. |

check your EGR, clean it

I also live in California. I have always passed my emission tests. Who are the idiots doing your emission. They should tell you what caused it to fail...They can't be any stupider
If you had it already thenjust look for a shop or ask who does HOT emission tests, They will make it pass for about 150.00 or so |
RE: Help failed smog because of HC (ppm).
Did you check your timing?
|
RE: Help failed smog because of HC (ppm).
Your HC (hydrocarbon) is high = unburn fuel.. try to drive your car around about an hour to make it HOT before the next time you smog it (cheap fix) or bring it to a shop for inspection.

RE: Help failed smog because of HC (ppm).
Mine had high idle HCs and I did two things that seemed to really bring it down. I got mine to pass.
1. Bleed air out of the cooling system. Easy, crack the little bleeder valve by the head. 2. Clean out the IACV screen. Easy. 2 Bolts. Its on the back of the intake manifold. Take out the bolts, carefully pull it back, leave all hoses attached. Don't lose the little figure-8 gasket. Spray out the screen with a couple shots of carb cleaner and it should get shiny. Bolt it back down tight, carefully. Don't overtighten the bolts into aluminum, but make sure they are tight. Done. Drive it around a bit to burn the carb cleaner from the IACV and give it another try. |
