Help w/ '04 Civic EX - AC Expansion Valve replacement.

Hello All,

I need to replace my AC expansion valve on my 2004 Civic EX.
I know it's part of the evaporator which is buried up underneath the dash...
I'd like to know if anyone can suggest the best way to replace this part w/o having to remove the dash?
Any and all advice would be extremely appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and support!

-Josh

This is a block type valve mounted where the lines come through the firewall. It is designed to be removed from the engine side without taking the dash apart.

Why are you replacing it? If it's because your compressor went to smithereens you should also replace the condenser.

Thanks for the quick response mk378.

The compressor did totally crap out on me just last week. I just picked up a complete compressor, and bought both a new receiver/dryer and expansion valve. Why replace the condenser... I take it maybe flushing them doesn't workout so well? That being said... What about the evaporator?

Parts of the blown compressor will have landed in the condenser. There are very small passages in the condenser which are almost impossible to clean. So scrap it. The evaporator can be flushed in place after removing the expansion valve. Do not try to flush through an expansion valve.

I'm definitely going to replace the condenser for sure.
Can you recommend a good AC system flush kit?

Thanks for all of your help mk378.
