How cold is your A/C?

mine just had a compressor replaced and it still doesn't quite seem cold enough..
What should the readings be? I can get some gauges. I'm wondering if they didn't replace the O-tube........How could I tell. Where is it in a 99 Honda Civic. I can look to see if there are any greasey hand prints in that area.......

You'll get a sense of cooling capacity by measuring the outside temperature and the temperature of the air coming out of the vent. I would think you should see a 25-30 degree temperature difference or more.

and remember on a hot day it could take awhile for the air to get cold... its gotta cool off everything in the tubes. i know mines alittle weak but it still gets cold.... just takes about 10mins for the air to come out cold and about another 10 mins to start to chill ya out to much ;)

I drove over 100 miles and it never froze me out. I had the recirculate on and the a/c button on. dial all the way to the blue. Fan on high. Stays that way and it doesn't get real cold. Just really cool-if that makes sense.

well if you had the AC part replaced from a shop id take it back to them and tell them the system is not cold enough and have them check the pressure in the system....

You might want to have the shop check whether the refrigerant level is low using manifold gauges and whether the A/C belt is slipping.

Addiction, you might also want to check the refrigerant level and the belt tension.

Here is where the fun begins- I just bought this from a tote the note lot. they screwed up the warranty papers. Put it in as a plan 1 instead of a plan2 which covers the a/c. Well the sales/owner said to bring him the car and his "mechanic" will fix it. It was a hole in the wall shop in a more run down part of town. Not knocking anyone here. mexican mechanics. My thoughts- Did they replace the o-tube/expansion valve? Reciever/dryer? did they check for leaks? Did they use a vacuum pump to get all the air out and lock it down to see if it leaks back?
Yes, I know about a/c just don't have guages- but know where to rent them.
I'm starting to think they did not replace the expansion valve. if it gets clogged- it won't work as good as it should- Hmmmmmmmmm........

finally on the shop- they called this good............

Well, your choices are to return the car for servicing or troubleshoot the problem yourself. The latter requires a set of manifold gauges.

im to lazy.LOL i know the belts should be replaced before thewinter since the alt belt and PS belt did look alittle cracked but no uneven wear or noises just yet. and the pressure probably is alittle low in my car but it still works decent so imnot gonna mess with it just yet.

ut anyways instead of taking it to the hole in the wall shop take it to a respectable AC shop that can check the system out properly!
