"Properly" performing maintenance on your car is not wasting time IMHO. I should think that the belt would need to be tensioned correctly to avoid future failure.
Motor is blown, I don't particularly give a **** what happens to it from here on out, I just want the head off

yes you have to remove the crank pulley or the plastic side cover wont come off.

i followed this page when i took my head off, u can slide it off, it takes a lil force but not too much, but to get it back on was a bitch, there fore you should, just pop the rubber insert that is in the lower timing cover off, and loosen the tensionor, you DONT have to take off the crank bolt and pully to do this
