How to tell what year my D16Y7 was made in?
hello all, a bit new to this site, so please excuse any fuax-pas' I might make, but I'm in a bit of an emergency. I have a 500 dollar skunk2 intake setup, which I need a Y8 swap for, so that it doesnt turn into a fancy paperweight. Now, I have seen on a few places that there is a difference between the 96-98, and 99-00 d16 blocks, but the Y8 heads are interchangeable as long as they are kept within the respective year boundaries. Is this true? or is there some magical 96-00 y8 head that I can buy? Also, if there is specific years to keep in mind, how do I tell what year me engine was made in? The kid I bought this car from told me he swapped in a 99 engine, but he lied about a few things, so how can I make sure what year the block itself was made in? any and all help will be insanely appreciated!, email is Tooncenator@hotmail.com if you need. thanks guys!
Run the vin that is engraved on the block.
And as far as the years and such, If you're doing a y7 to y8 intake manifold conversion just make sure it has the same tranny as your car (manual/Auto). Thats all I know..And that the injectors run richer. As far as the fuel rail you can use the y7 or y8.
Hope that helps a little.

First, thanks for replying so fast
. secondly, I know about the manual/auto tranny thing. the whole 3plug vs 4 plug ECu and such. I did hear there was a VIN on the block, but couldnt find anywhere that listed where on the block it was. any tips?
