idle prolbem
 

I was trying to get the play out of my gas pedal by tightening the throttle cable and little bit and i cannot get it to idle right now. I start it and it goes to like 2k rpms so i loosen the cable a little bit and it goes down to like 700 rpms and the engine/car shakes like crazy, so i tighen the cable till it goes to 900 and runs smooth. but then i start it again and the rpms go up to almost 2000 again and the only way i can get it back down is to put my foot under the pedal and pull it up. no matter how little i tighen the cable it idles really high. anyone have any idea why its doing this? or how i can get it to idle right, any tricks?

dont they have some kind of hand held tach thing. hook it up somewhere i guess and tighten the idle sensor to match that... then should match the cars.

yeah, don't get too frustrated. Loosen the cable all the way and start the car. There are idle adjustments on the intake manifold, I think right around where the air intake is if I remember right. I would adjust the idle from there and then after it's adjusted right, tighten the throttle cable up just enough so that it won't open the throttle more than the idle position. It's ok if it's not 100 percent tight, just as long as there's not visible slack in it. Open and close the throttle a few times and make sure that after that it's still not pulling on the throttle or regaining slack. It should work. I don't remember exactlty how to do it, so I'm sorry if this doesn't sound quite right to you guys.
