Default Ignition key removal

Has anybody had the problem: when it's cold outside you can turn the engine off but you can't get the key out. when it's warm outside the key works perfectly....it comes right out.
Thanks,
Robert []

Try lithium greese in the key hole. That is what you generally use for key for the door so i guess it should also work for the ignition key although i've never heard of keys getting stuck in the ignition.

not suppose to use any kind of oil or grease or spray lubricant on keys or locks.
only use graphite.
it is sold at wal-mart in the auto department. lock shops should have it.

It's happened to me before on cold days. I figured the trick is that you need to get your wheels nice and straight to keep the steering wheel lock from just baaaaaareeeeely catching. If my ignition won't spit out my key I'll let go of it and wait a few seconds and it pops right out when I go for it again. Strange stuff.

I live in Las Vegas, NV. When it's cool in the mornings, around 85 degrees around 4 in the morning, the darn iginition switch won't give the key back. But after it warms up between 100 and 115 degrees it works great. How's that for a problem. LOL.

Thanks a lot. I will try this and I'll get back to you and let you know if it works. I really appreciate your help. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one with this problem. I found one other person who posted the same question out on the web. Nobody answered it within a 4 month period so they closed it.

I've parked it in the mornings with the wheel straight and waited for a few seconds before shutting off the ignition and the key came right out. Thank you very much shellebelle. It is strange stuff. I agree. Cars do have little quirks and you have to find their secrets. Thanks for sharing yours.
