Default Intermittent Brake Pedal Fade / Loss

I have had my 90 DX for over a year and it has been fairly painless. Routine mainteneance and catching problems before they snowball.
Today I am driving down the freeway and much to my surprise there were no brakes when I pedaled. The brakes up to this point were always firm and effective. I found pumping them gave me some brakes. I inched to a convience store and found no leaks and full fluid level. I got back on the rd and they worked pretty good sometimes and sometimes almost no brakes at all. I replaced the rotors a week or three ago. I imagine that bleeding the brakes COULD be the answer but they went from near perfect response in the morning to nothing in the afternoon and when they fail it's not like a fade feeling, it's like no resistance at all.

That sounds like a worn out master cylinder. It has an internal leak so it can't build any pressure. Replace master cylinder.
