Default --> Key Fob programmable?

Hi there,
I have a 98 Honda Civic, but when i bought the car the key fob had been
lost.

I have seen some on eBay but have no idea how to programme a key fob for a
Civic...
But i'm not sure if the ones on ebay will work! (how do i know?)

Is it possible to reprogramme any Honda remote?

Honda dealers quoted £75 for replacement which included programming.
Should i just go for this?

Cheers,
Sean

Thanks for the reply....still bit unsure though.

I rang Honda dealer about programming it and they said that you need to be careful what key fob?!?
They said only certain fobs work for each model.
The original that should have came with the car was a 'one-button fob'.

This fob is currently available on ebay (2 button):

You reckon this will work on 98 Civic?
Anything i need to check first?

(hope no one else buys it now...)

I don't see the resemblance. Does fob stand for something, or is it just another word for remote?

"A fob is an ornament attached to the chain of a pocket watch. Many fobs were produced for political candidates, indicating a voter's preference."
