Default Manual Transmission oil type?

I have a 1996 and a 1997 Honda Civic, both of them are a DX and have a manual 5-speed tansmission. What type of oil or fluid does it take if I need to top it off? Is it just regular gear oil or something els? I did not want to have to go back to the dealer if it is just gear oil. If it is gear oil, what weight oil should I use?

Honda has an advanced tranny fluid, I'd use that

Spec is for 10W40. There is a considerable difference. 10W30 is going to be too light, just like you wouldn't put anything 40 weight in the engine because it's too heavy.

It is recommended to use Honda MTF as everyone said. You'll need 2 quarts. I paid $12 for 2 quarts at my local dealer.
