Both my Civics leak a little hydraulic fluid. I think it's normal for them to do that. As long as its a very light leak. If you think about it, it kinda makes sense too. The plunger rod is getting immersed in hydraulic fluid and then pulled back out again. Over and over and over and.... So even if a very fine layer of hydraulic fluid is still on the rod its going to build up over time and look like a leak. Wipe it clean and see if its leaking without pressing the peddal. If it is then it might be cheaper to rebuild the cylinder by buying the rubber gaskets and seals for it.
well its definatly not NORMAL.LOL
think about it your brake pedal doesnt leak fluid does it? i know mine sure dont.......
needs to be replaced. if fluid can leak out then air/ moisture can also get in.

Ya never thought of that, and then the fluid oxidizes in the lines, and you could get air in the lines. Changing the seals should be pretty cheap if you can find a kit. Honda will probably charge $20-30. I've seen kits for motorcycles, but not civics... Still looking.
When I needed a brake master for my Integra, I looked & never had any luck finding a rebuild kit.
OTOH, one common reason for the MC to fail like that is corrosion/pittingon the bore of the MC body. New seals aren't gonna fix that.

I got the ones from Ebay - Grip Force. I replaced both master and slave cylinder even only the master was leaking. I think the total price for both pieces was around 60 bucks.
