Messy Oil Filter Change

04 Civic EX Coupe - Anyone else have messy oil changes besides me? The factory filter as well as the Mobil 1 filters I use stay full when the engine shuts off - is this in the design of the filters themselves or the engine design? Inside the filter it appears there's a springy dingy that im guessing is an anti-drainback valve - however I do not see on the Mobil 1 box anything about anti-drainback. Any ideas? It makes a huge mess when I take off the filter and then I have to wipe down my oil pan etc... I'm running out of tshirts to destroy every 5000 miles.

Any insight?
Thanks!

RE: Messy Oil Filter Change

All the oil changes ive done, the filter is full of oil. So when i take it off there oil drips everwhere. Im pretty sure this is true with all oil changes.

RE: Messy Oil Filter Change

not on a mitsu, the filter is at the bottom, and the opening faces up, so you just unscrew it, and all the oil stays in the filter. but yeah, civics are a little messy. not a bad trade off for reliability.
