Default my 97 civic lx sohc 1.6 liter is having problems, help please?

OK, so i am driving normally and it will ping under a low gear. if i floor it, no more ping. i tried all grades of gasoline too. mechanically the engine runs perfect, no missing or shaking. it also makes a knock sound at 2k, like a rod mabey? i listened to it while holding it at 2k from the engine compartment and it sounded like it was coming from the cam area. i have no oil lights on or anything.. i have new oil in it too, 5w30 valvoline.

Have you checked whether the ignition timing is set to spec?

Inductive clip to #1 plug wire (closest to timing belt).

Red clip to + battery post.

Black clip to engine valve cover bolt.
