My car red-lines when it starts
 
Hi, first post, figured I should finally join a forum.

Anyway just did a PCV valve on my 96 civic ex, had to pull the intake manifold to get to it, put everything back together, and now when I start my car it goes right to the red, and I have a check engine light.

There was a sensor on the far right under the manifold that was broken when i went in but now is worse, what is it/could that be the problem?

Stat by pulling the CEL code.

Then check whether the throttle cable is adjusted too tightly and clean the throttle body.

is your throttle cable installed correctly? any vacum leaks?

The problem with the CEL is I have no way to get my car to autozone or somewhere where they can check it.

I think the broken sensor is an oil pressure switch or a knock sensor but hard to tell. If my intake mani wasnt on all the way would that cause the engine to rev all the way up?

I never took the throttle cable off and it worked fine before.

you dont have to goto autozone to get codes you can do it yourself

Figured it out, got a IAVC code, which I figured, but it worked fine before, so I doubt its that, unless it decided to randomly stop working. Regardless I need to replace the sensor that broke if I can figure out what it is.

If I'm not mistaken, there are two plugs that look like the one on the IACV. You might have switched them when you put it all back together.

The IACV code will occur simply because the idle speed is out of control. It does not necessarily mean the IACV is the problem.

Air leaking at the gasket between the manifold and the head (or anywhere else where it can get into the intake) will make the engine idle too fast. Did you put all the hoses back on the manifold, especially the ones to the PCV valve and the brake booster?

Everything should be back together right, Except the screw in the middle bottom of the intake manifold, but I need to replace the sensor before I worry about that. Ill check to make sure all the plugs are in the right spots.

You'd have to have a Grand Canyon-sized air intake or vacuum leak to red line, which is why I have suggested that check whether the throttle plate is stuck open.
