Question My car wont start

I have a 2004 Honda Civic. The other day I had my cousin go out and start my car to warm it up, it started fine. When I got to the car I noticed the light around the D on the dash was blinking, so I put my car into drive then back into park to see if it would stop and it did not, I shut the car off to try and restart it, nothing. It makes no sound what so ever when trying to start it. Headlights do not dim, dash lights are strong, I was told it pulled a code P0702 (I had someone come look at it). They said it's not my battery or starter... They THINK either my key is bad since it has a computer chip or that my cars transmission is tricked into thinking it is in drive and that is why it will not start. Any ideas??? I really don't know much, just trying to figure out if this is going to be something I can get fixed before Christmas Eve as I am supposed to be going outta town to visit my mother. Thanks.

The switch on the shift lever that locks out the starter if not in P or N, also controls the gear indicator lights on the dash. So that switch is probably the root of both problems.
