need help timing a 1991 honda civic 1.5
 
I,ve got a 1991 1.5 duel point civic that i cant get to start. i think the only problem is the timing. It gets close every once in a while but no matter what i try it wont start. it burps alot as well but most of the time just idles.
HELP !!! :)

on your crank pulley there is very small marks on it, youll need to use a shop light to see them. Then on your plastic cover right behind the crank pulley there is a timing mark, line the crank mark to the mark on the plastic. After you have done that look at your cam gear and see if the timing marks line up correct.

^^^ Yes that's how you check the cam timing. To see the cam gear you need to take the upper plastic timing cover off, which also requires loosening the valve cover and lifting it up. Also probe in the #1 cylinder to be sure that the piston is really at TDC. If someone put the crank front pulley on without the key the marks on it will be meaningless.

How long has this car sat without starting? What you describe also occurs if the gas in the tank is more than a year or so old and has gotten stale.

Do you have spark at all the plugs?
