I just bought a junkyard car for $250. I bought it planning on rebuilding the engine. It is intact and pretty clean. I have no history on it.
Problems: Both airbags were deployed from a lite hit to the rt front corner. The headlights were upgraded to projectors, fender and hood replaced and it looks pretty good overall. ANYWAYS...as I was looking it over I found that it had about 5 qrts too much oil in it! So I drained and refilled the oil and it fired right up....thats when I found out that someone had hacked off and stole the catalatic converter. UGH!
Aside from that noise, I can hear a little valve train rattle, and it knocks faintly upon reving the engine. It dies after I rev it a few times and let it come down to idle, but starts right back up and idles without much noise and the A/C blows ice cold. My question....What happens to an engine when a moron puts about 8 qts of oil in it? There is NO metal in the oil I drained and the valve train looks fine...but to me it looks kinda like it is riding on the vtec part of the cam the whole time. Is that possible?
The compression is 150 on each cylander. Do you guys think I need a new motor? Is $550 a good price on a junkyard D16By8?
What else should I check or do before replacing it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well. I found my answer today! It knocks a little, has little power, then it throws a rod thru the block!
Anybody got a D16y8 engine for sale?
