need a new key
hey folks! nice forum!
1) we lost a key. the local Honda dealer said $42 for new key and $88 to re-program it? yikes. any alternatives out there?
also...
2) is there a cheapway to get an owner's manual for 02 LX 5-speed?
any ideas?

sorry but no real way around it....
your car uses a transponder crap thats inside the key, which is hooked up thru the alarm system and if it doesnt get that signal.... it wont let the car run...
sorry
but 88 to reprogram it..... does that include having the old key signals erased?
that way with your old key even if it is found they wont be able to drive the car off? i would ask them that...

Same thing happened to me, I have an 01...
The key has an RFID chip inside the plastic part and the engine will not turn over unless it detects the key's chip...
Your pricing is 100% identical to what the Honda dealer quoted me...
An alternative which I have not tried myself is:
Buy a blank chipped key from Ebay and have it cut yourself..and save a few bucks there vs dealers price...then bring that to the dealer to have it programmed...
I dont know if you can program it yourself...
Myself I just went to the dealer and bit the bullet...its cheaper to get 2 keys at once, my dealer said they only charge for the programming once...
And if you dont have any key, you have to have the car towed flatbed to the dealer for a complete reprogram...so get a spare key made before worst case happens...
Here is link to your owners manual:

Its for an 01 coupe, you didnt say if you had the sedan or not, but 01 and 02 are the same...or get one from your junkyard if you want a hardcopy.
