no radio reception
Ok guys heres the issue. i thank you in advance.
i have an aftermarket headunit and the cd/aux work perfect. the radio portion, however, gets zero reception. what could be causing this? how do i fix it? sometimes when i get lucky i can play with the plug in the back or just all out shake it and it will come one beautifully for a few seconds..then fail. thank you. |
Has to be a loose connection somewhere in the antennae wiring. Have you tried the basic **** like making sure you're antennae is tightly secured and what not? It's gotta be something basic..
Either that, or you just forgot to calibrate the roto-gurder to the speed of the uncle spinny derbish |
Check that the antenna cable is securely plugged into the back of the radio. You may be able to do that without disassembling anything, by getting down on the floorboard and looking up. If the plug is pushed in all the way but wiggling it makes the reception come and go, could be a bad connection inside the radio itself.

thank you, i just went outside and check that, i also followed the antenna all the way to the pillar where the antenna box is and it has no kinks and it everything is secure. still no reception.

how old is the radio? there is a possibility that the tuner inside of the radio has gone out. even if it is fairly new, electronics do fail sometimes.
this may not be possible, but if you can take your radio out and try hooking it up to someone else's car and see if it works there. that will at least narrow the problem to be either your antenna or the radio. and also I have see in the past, on civics with the pillar mounted antenna, the antenna just stops working. no kinks or physical damage, it just doesn't work anymore and requires being replaced |
1. it is def. a few years old. 2. is the plug that goes from the wire harness to the back of the head unit universal?
i guess an option would also be to buy a universal antenna, hook it up directly to the back of my head unit...if it works...then its not the head unit...if it doesnt...its my oem antenna. |
You could take a new antenna, not attached to the car, and plug it into the back of the radio. This should give you some reception (at least on FM, don't expect much on AM). If it still doesn't work, your radio is dead.
