Is this normal?

My car is used and its my first car, its a 97 civic ex automatic, now when i i floor it, in order to let the transmission shift i have to let go of gas other wise it just hits rev limiter, now i know my solenoid is faulty, ill buy i new one later, but is this normal? for me to let go of the gas to allow it to shift into 3rd and 4th while floored?

uhh..that doesnt sound normal at all. mine shifts smoother into 4th when im on the gas...you better replace that solenoid and see how she does.

check your tranny fluid too ..

Yeah, you have something really wrong with your tranny. It might also be your TCU. Have it check out just to be on the safe saide.

Now do you just let off a little? or all the way. cuz if just a little then i think that it is normal.

well on auto's if you floor it then the rpm's go higher in each gear. but if you let off the gas when the rpm's start to get high it should shift normal. and if you are accelerating at a normal rate the gears should shift pretty smoothly. hope that helps

Well if you know you have a bad shift solenoid then I'd say thats the problem. Get it replaced and It should be perfectly fine. I'd also get the tranny flushed for general maintenance.
