It's driving fine now. Looks like the cap just failed, like we figured. I was able to verify that the cooling fan is functioning properly.

Since I was curious, I went through the records and found when the previous owner replaced the gauge cluster, then added that to the current mileage. That car actually has 262,891 as it sits right now. Crazy for a 2000 model, but still going. (hopefully still going strong.)

Good luck! Maybe you'll now get another 262K miles.

if you're concerned about the radiator cap not having a spring i have an OEM cap (93 Civic) that works good in my for sale thread.

The new one actually does have a spring, but it's internal. I just didnt understand the design. But we've got three 6th gens and a 7th gen, so I plan on checking the others to make sure they're still good to go. If I need one, I'll remember you.

i know it'll fit 5th/6th gens, probably 4th gens. i have no clue about 7th gens, i've never seen their radiator caps.

but yea, that cap in my f/s thread is oldddddd, but it still worked fine when I took it off. I took it off because i replaced it with a 1.3 radiator cap that came with my aftermarket oil cap
