pcv valve
Suicide97Civic,
The PCV system removes and recycles accumulated gases that escape into the crankcase of a vehicle's engine from the combustion chambers. Instead of becoming combusted and exhausted from the engine, these gases build up in the crankcase and create higher internal pressure. The PCV valve directs these gases back into the combustion chambers and plays a vital role in maintaining engine efficiency.
While you can drive your Civic around without a pcv valve, it is STRONGLY discouraged because a harmful gases will accumulate inside the engine crankcase. This buildup can affect the quality and longevity of engine oil and can lead to sludge buildup, which could ultimately lead to catastrophic engine failure
You will also experience increased smog emissions, poor fuel mileage and a major engine power deficiency.
With that said, I would replace the PCV valve ASAP. The OEM part # is 17130-PM6-003, and it costs $19 at the dealer or even cheaper on Honda OEM parts sites. I think I recall it costing $14 at hondapartsnow.com.
In summation: don't drive without the PCV valve!
