Default PCV valve and oil consumption

Hello,
I have a 95 Civic CX with two valve 1.5L engine. The car had 270,000 miles and burned about 1qt of oil every 500 mile when I rebuilt the engine. The valve seals were not in too bad of a shape. The piston rings (old ones) had a gap in the 0.015" range, which would not justify so much oil usage.

After the rebuild (I did the head, replaced bearings, gaskets, seals and rings) it still burns almost as much oil as before. The hose that goes to the PCV valve (and then to the intake) when I remove it from the PCV, spews all kinds of oil droplets, which no doubt end up at the PCV valve and are then fed into the engine. The engine does not smoke, except short big puffs of smoke, usually under acceleration. I figured that if my oil consumption came from the valve seals or rings, it would be more constant.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Mikel

Put an oil catch can on the PVC line. It won't stop you from using oil, but it won't be sucked into the intake.
