Default PLease Help! 92 civic dx is slowly driving me insane!

Okay, here's the story: the car dies while driving, mostly when you come to a stop in gear. so we start checking things; fuel pump, fuses, wiring etc. We change the main relay and think we got licked. Think again. It does the same damn thing again! the fuel pump works, ignition works, main relay works, fuses good. we think it could have to do with 2 wires coming out of the bottom of the ignition switch (blue/white) both wires have no power . Can the ignition switch be tested? What else might we try?

You're saying that it just does not idle, or that it will also quit going at speed?

Stalling when idling in gear (automatic) is usually from dirt in the IACV. The engine can't get enough air to keep running.

To tell if the ignition switch made the engine cut off, watch for the oil and battery lights on the dash to come on after it dies. They should be on any time the key is on but the engine not turning. If they don't come on it probably is the switch.

I think the blue and white wires are just for the key detector or park interlock system. The yellow and black wire feeds the ignition circuit.

Default thanx for answering mike

the car dies after coming to a stop and idling or just sitting in gear with the brake on. Also What is the IACV? We have preformed a self-diagnostic and got code 43. it said to test the fuel pressure. we did and its fine. Then it said to check the fuel pressure regulator. We dont have a fuel pressure gauge so we cant do that test. Then it says to check for vaccuum leaks. Where should we check? Last thing..... the real problem is that after the car dies, it wont start again. there is still electrical power but the fuel pump wont turn on. And we know the pump works because we tested it. Then after a period of time it will start working again. And I still dont have a Freaking clue why. Anymore suggestions?

IACV = Idle Air Control Valve

Here is a DIY on cleaning. https://www.hondacivicforum.com/foru...ad.php?t=62836

Check the ECU ground wires which connect to the engine at the thermostat housing. If they're loose the whole ECU system will shut down. When you turn the key on but don't try to start (while it is in a condition where it won't start), does the CEL come on and then go out after 2 seconds like it should?

Any resolutions to this issue yet? My car runs perfect until it dies and then wont start until later on usually 30 minutes or more. 1995 Civic HB VX 1.5 SOHC V-tec.

stdttv: Often this is because the ICM quits working when it is hot. The ICM is the module in the distributor that drives the ignition coil. While it will not start, check if the ignition is making sparks.

Swapping out the distributor and new cap and rotor as well as the ignition control module hopefully this fixes it.

Thanks mk378. I swapped the distributor out and it had a bad cap and rotor and ICM it was burnt. No more problems since swapping it out.
