Is it possible to rebuilt an engine while mounted in the car?
I was just wondering if that is possible for a diy project. Or lets say I get a shell and I wanted to transfer my engine to it. Could I take out peace by peace and reassemble it back in the other car?

yes but it makes it really hard and also what exactly are you planing on doing(rebuild)
i've swapped many of engines out with no cherry picker(engine hoist) you can strip it down to the block while motor is still in car. |
You can but you do not need to. The engine can actually be removed a different way, which only requires a dolly of some sort and a tall jack (and jack stands of course).
Here's a DIY on the subject: http://www.civic-eg.com/viewtopic.php?t=22 |

if you have a tree in the yard you can buy a come-a-long and pull the the engine they are affordable |
