power lock

I have a 1997 civic ex coupe. I can use the power locks to lock the doors when they are closed but when the door is open (as in when im getting out of the car) pressing the power lock button, the passenger door locks but the driver side won't. Is this a safety feature or is something broker or bad? If it is a safety feature, is there anything that can be done to bypass it.

It's a design to help prevent you from locking the keys inside the car.

Thats what i was afraid of. Although its a nice feature im not a big fan of having to lock the door from the outside everytime i get out. I guess this means i need to get a keyless entry button

If you have the stock radio still installed, then you probably just need to buy the correct Honda Civic keyless remote.

You can pull the inside door handle and press the manual lock down when the door is open to lock it.

That worked, Thanks

I still plan to get a button in the near future

I hate that it does that. I was warming my car up one night before leaving work and the drivers door was frooze shut. So i got the passenger door open and started my car. When i closed the door the door locked. Needless to say i was locked out with it running in a bad area of town. I had to have another guy that i worked with run me from the city out to the country to get my spare set of keys. But when i got back my drivers door was unfroozen. lol
