UMM you should have gotten units that can do high beams (halogen, sliding hid bulb/shield or double hid bulb), removing the shield will allow light to fill the housing and sent it out and up into on coming drivers eyes....... I can say with several experiances locally that this is more painfull and annoying than people running with their halogen highs on.....
I know a guy on ebay who sells hid low/halgen high just bulbs for like 45 bucks shipped, it takes two weeks to get but it's the best price and so far best product I've delt with. |

Would you rather hit a deer that's standing still or another car that's coming at you at 60 mph because you blinded the driver?

There are aftermarket kits for GM headlights that do the exact thing you're asking about. I'm sure it would be a simple matter of Googling for a wiring diagram.

Depeding on which bulb you get yea you can, the simple way is to run a large diode from the highbeam wire to the lowbeam wire and it (when installed correctly) will allow the power from the high beam line to the low beam line. The other option would be to use a relay, and it would simply do what the diode would be doing but it'd be pulling power directly from the battery.
There are three types of bulbs when it comes to H4 hi/lows; HID low halogen high: it's like the unit you have but it includes a lil halogen bulb to act light a high beam, these units work okay but the high beam bulb isn't stupidly bright when paired with the hid.... HID sliding bulb/shield for high/low: This bulb has a shield unit and an electromagnetic actuator that moves the bulb (or in some cases the shield) to an open section of the shield to cast the HID light towards the section where the high beam light would normally be cast with halogen bulbs. These units work better than the halogen ones for the simple fact that's it's the HID light being cast BUT you lose your forground low beam cast because the bulb has shifted... and lastly Dual HID high/low: these bulbs had two hid capsules per base unit and they require two ballast units per bulb. These again will be alot brighter being dual HID bulbs BUT since hid takes a few seconds to come to full brightness there will always be a delay and aren't as good for the bulb to do flash to past (strobing HID bulbs wears the bulb out faster and can cause premature failure). Also most dual HID bulb units DON'T have glare shielding of any form, so you're likely to be casting light into the highbeam reflector area thus sending it up into drivers eyes..... If you go with projector conversion headlights you will have to get new HID bulbs to fit into the low beam projector. The two bulbs commonly used for conversion projector headlights are H1 and H3, from what I've seen the H1 projectors are better than the H3 units BUT I'd still say with either to have HID plug n play bulbs installed. My H3 units absolutely SUCK and HID plug n play is the only way to get any decent useable light out of them. Your other option would be to buy HID projector units (TSX, TL, FX/G35, 350Z, S2000, various audi's, n such) and retrofit them into your headlights. This requires more work and money but the output and life span of these will be alot longer due to being OE equipment. The main problem is the cost and work to retrofit them into the housings, not only do you have to mount them (have to bake apart the headlight) but you have to level them so you're not blingin people.... both will take time and energy but the outcome is worth it. And finally the guy I use is on ebay . The only problem is if ordering just bulbs from him, he will send them postal mail and it'll take two weeks. This being said when I purchased a set of 9007 hid low/halogen high's from him he not only sent the bulbs but also new wiring harnesses for the ballasts and to accomadate the halogen bulb hook up. |
