Default Question about gearing, clutch etc.

I have a '92 and a '93 Si Hatch. I noticed a big difference when driving each car as far as the gearing and clutch. The '92 seems to be geared lower and the '93 seems to have higher gears. When I pull out from a stop in the '93, it almost seems like I'm trying to pull out in second gear. The '93 clutch works fine (no slipping) and every gear works fine, you just have to rev a little higher to pull out from a dead stop in the '93. The '93 seems to get better gas mileage because of the higher gearing. I guess I'm asking, is there a reason for this difference in these 2 years on the same exact car? Is it lower gears in the '92. I'm fairly certain that they are both stock transaxles etc. I think that 2nd gear in the '92 is just like 1st gear in the '93. When slowing down to turn into my house, I downshift to 2nd gear in the '92 and in the '93 I have to downshift to 1st gear for the same results.
Hope this makes sense. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Bill

Default RE: Question about gearing, clutch etc.

The Si is going to be geared to have a better performance so its going to have higher gear ratios (for more acceleration) and the ratios are prolly alot closer as well. The regular hatch is going to geared more for fuel economy and less for performance. The Si is a suppose to be a sports car and the regular hatch is not. If the '92 is also an Si then i dunno.

They are both Si Hatchbacks.
That's why I cannot understand the difference.

Thanks anyway! Bill
