Rattle at 3000 RPM
So I've been having this problem for a while...when I hit about 3000 RPM, I start hearing a pretty lound rattle from the engine bay. I've tried to get it happen with a parked car, and I think I heard a slight rattle around the header. I've read forums about heatshield rattle, and it seems like that would be the most likely thing. Is there any issue with just removing the heatshield all together, or is it required for the stock header? It doesn't feel lose, but in searching it seems to be a pretty common issue, so its the only think I can think of.
Any suggestions? I've got a new sense of urgency now that I've got a Magnaflow cat-back on the way!! I want to get this resolved before it goes on and I can't hear it anymore. |
RE: Rattle at 3000 RPM
Nevermind....Header shield was good and tight, but because the cat shield was double walled and beginning to rust, it was shaking like crazy. Pulled it off and it's all good!

RE: Rattle at 3000 RPM
one of the bolts came off of my shield and caused it to start shaking around 3000 rpm too, and it happened at a car show, i was pretty pissed.

RE: Rattle at 3000 RPM
Mine did the same thing when I first got the car, so I pulled every damn one of those heat shields off of it:D

RE: Rattle at 3000 RPM
Use a large hose clamp around the whole heat shieldrather than taking it off...this stops the rattle quick.
