Default Rattling noise ONLY after switching gears

Hi Folks,

I tried searching for threads relating to this issue, but maybe I wasn't using the right keywords.

I've got an '00 SE 5spd, and lately I've been hearing a rattling noise every time I accelerate after switching gears

So basically,

1. I'll switch gears
2. I'll hear this rattling noise as I press my foot on the accelerator
3. It'll be for about 1 to 1.5 seconds
4. Won't hear it again till I have to switch again.

Also, I really only hear it when upshifting ...

Hope I've provided enough information. Has anybody ever experienced this?

Thanks a loT!!

Sounds like a loose or cracked exhaust heat shield. The bad shield can be tightened or repaired (my preference), although some members will recommend that you simply remove the offending shield.

If you have a D16Y7 engine, this diagram will help identify the shields (red arrows):

dito the heat shields are well known for rattling! i dont think they are really needed since most people just remove them.... hell my 96 came without the heatshields on the header already.LOL

Heat shields are the most likely explanation, but mine also rattles when I accelerate. Have you noticed if it comes from one side more than the other? My rattle turned out to be a failing driver's side CV axle.
