Default Reading on Dipstick?

I just bought a Civic SI, 2002 and noticed the oil level was just a tad above the lower mark on the dipstick. I changed the oil, adding 4.5 qts of Mobile One. While the new oil is nice and clear, the reading on the dipstick is the same as before, just above the lower mark. The owners manual states that when changing the filter, the capacity is 4.4 qts.

Whazzup with this dipstick reading? Did I do something wrong? Or is this simply common to these cars?

did you change it, then dump it in and then go for a reading right then and there?

Drive it around for a while, get the oil circulating through the engine and then check it when it's warmed up.

If thats what you are getting cold (before you start it), you need more. If that reading is after you've warmed up, your okay. Never overfill your car with oil.

I drove it for a good while today, then checked it. Same location on dipstick. I guess if it stays there all is OK.

Checked it this morning after sitting (the car, not me!) all night, reading right at top line, perfect!

Thanks for the advice!

I just had my oil changed at the Honda Dealer(they threw in the oil change with the Timing Belt change)...in checking the level, it is above my top indicator on the dipstick....did the dealer overfill?
