Rear alignment adjustment bolt
 

Has anyone ever had any probs with a seized rear wheel alignment adjustment bolt? My '00 civic LX 1.6L has a passenger rear alignment adjustment bolt that is seized....i assume it has a cam on it since it is used to change the alignment settings for the rear wheel. I have had 2 places tell me that they could only get it to barely move. I am hoping i can get it to where it can be adjusted so i can prolong tire life.

It's terrible when this happens, basically you're screwed. That bolt threads into a female threaded part that has wings on it that slide into a slot on the inside face of the frame.

If they cant get it out with heat or penetrant they have to cut open the frame to access that piece, cut off the bolt head, then put new threaded piece in and weld the frame closed. Awful design honda.....

yeah neither place tried to use heat. I guess they prefer not to try that on something that they may have to take forever repairing. I meant to ask the mechanic which bolt it was so i can take a look at it.

terrible isnt it? i got a few to many idea's on my last car with that bolt.. dont crank on it, not worth it. switch your tires around and just leave it xD

A solid/easy answer to the issue would be nice though..

Captive fasteners in the frame never have an easy answer unless you're good at cutting and welding. If you go this route instead of living with worn tires, you cut a square in the bottom of bulb part of the frame just below the bolt. Honestly, a shop should be able to easily do this with the car up on a lift.

that was an awesome thread you posted from honda-tech the pics were definitely helpful. I had forgot to ask the alignment mech which bolt it was but the pics told all. much appreciated.
