Default Rear Silencer Blowing

Hi All,

I have a year 2000, 3dr Honda Civic Hatchback (6th Gen). 1.4i engine. Non-vtec SOHC. Had an MOT Test a month ago which it passed, but on the advice sheet I was told the rear silencer has a very small leak in it, therefore is blowing. The sound isn't too loud, can only be heard if you listen carefully.

My question is, should I get a new back part of my exhaust fitted now? or should i just get the hole welded (considering it's a small hole)?

They rust from the inside, so once the first hole appears, it's very likely other parts are paper-thin. Would be best to replace it rather than attempt to repair.

you can't really weld rust and expect it to hold... you'd be wasting a lot of time if you tried to weld it. Best bet would be to buy a new one. make sure you wear safety glasses when you are changing it out too. i can't count how many times rust has fell into my eyes when working on exhaust.
