Default running around without an oil cap

So i took my car in to have the tires rotated on saturday and i decided to have them change my oil since i had a coupon. This i a Goodyear place and is usually reputable.

I get the car back and start driving, i notice a little buring oil smell and figure they just got some on the manifold... well about an hour later i still notice the smell and pop the hood only to see the absence of an oil cap and my whole bay splattered with brown. I checked the levels, got a new cap and decided to raise hell the next day when i told them.

So before i take it back what is the worst case here ? The levels weren't very low it was just below the bottom hole on the dip stick but what else should i tell them to check or make sure they didn't screw up? (aside from cleaning it up and giving me another change)

it will be the last time i step foot in that place so i want to make sure i have as much info and get them to make it right in one go.

thanks

just depends how low the oil got OR if its been wet out... if its been raining out. DEMAND A NEW OIL CHANGE RIGHT NOW!!!!!!
water inside the oil is NOT GOOD....

speaking of changing oil... i just changed mine. and DAM IT!!!!!!!! SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN.... the rubber O ring on the filter stuck to the block and i didnt notice any leaks the first 2 times just starting it up.... 3rd time the cars all down on the ground. back it out and into my garage about 100ft away.... TRAIL OF OIL.... the dam rubber oring stuck to the block for the 2nd time in the last year!!!!! lost a quart of my brand new high dollar royal purple oil. and a huge mess in the shop floor and the garge floor! HUGE PITA!!! first car ive ever had a problem with the Orings sticking to the block. i gotta start checking that every time now!
at least it didnt pop loose while i was on the highway again at least.... still [:@] MAKES ME MAD!!!!!!

I would do more than ask for a clean up. I'd speak to the manager, preferably the general manager and tell him the story. Show him the receipt for a new cap and ask them if they found your cap in their shop. Then show him the evidence of your hood and tell him to not only give you several oil changes like 4 but also to put in writing that any subsequent head damage to your engine will be their fault.

This is the dumbest thing shops can do. I recently heard of a dealer that forgot to tighten up the bolt and the person's oil was leaking everywhere... unbelievable. I think they must hire the dumbest kids who take less than minimum wage to work these oil changes or something.

idk exactly how long, but long enough to cause damage to the head. i always tell everyone to look over the shopswork and usually ask to see the empty oil containers and filter to make sure they don't jip you, or you could simply ask to watch them if you have time. the oil change busy is a very shady one, that's why i've never taken a car to a store to change my oil, if you do all the work on your car, then you're the only one to blame then, which is how i like it.

^ dito..... its only a oil change... its not that hard. 3 steps, drain oil/filter, replace plug and filter, and refill.

just make sure the old rubber gasket doesnt stick to the block.LOL 2nd time this has happened on me! i swear my motor must want to die! it holds onto the old filter seal! LOL

I doubt any damage was done to your engine but I don't know for sure. Did the heat guage go way up and the oil light come on? If so then there was damage.

They should clean your engine and change the oil again, doing it right this time.

No doubt some dirt was sucked into the oil hole so I would run it and change it after about 2 weeks, if it were mine.

Take it back ASAP. Have them clean the engine bay THOROUGHLY with a degreaser and then change your oil. Sensors, rubber parts, and electrical connectors do NOT like being bathed in oil.

Might want them to do a thorough inspection FOR FREE
just to double check anything and everything that may have been damaged
