Default Scraping Grinding Noise at Passenger Tire

Hi everyone, I need some help troubleshooting this. I don't really know anything about cars but I have a friend who's been helping me out and he's pretty good.

I bought a 2000 Civic EX coupe a few months ago. It had 14" tires but they were really worn so I replaced them with 16" tires a few weeks ago. Now I have a grinding/scraping sound on the back passenger side whenever I make a left turn. It sounds like the tire is hitting the wheel well. Also just today someone sat in the backseat and it grinded A LOT even while not turning. The tire is defnitely hitting the wheel well when someone is in the back, I'm not sure about the left turns though but it sounds the same.

The car was in an accident before and I think the axle on that side was replaced. I took it to the shop that did the work and the guy said it was the hub bearing, but my friend told me it probably wasn't. We went ahead and changed the hub bearing, and also replaced the drums on both sides. That didn't fix anything.

Any ideas on what's wrong and an estimate on the parts/labor cost?

Shocks might be blown. And/or tires are too big. What size tires do you have on there now? Can you see uneven wear on the tire yet?

The tires are Falkin Ziex 512, 16x7 205/50, I believe. I did not see any uneven wear yet.

i agree with mxs. dont think you should have gone that big.
before any of that is done, one should go to a search engine (i know this works in yahoo - so use that one) and put in "tire calculator". one of the first ones to come up will be by miata - there you can enter what you have and then what you want to change to.
There is an allowance of what you can do with larger tires. you can read it there.

tire calcualtor says the size is fine, it's only .38% off from stock.

could be your suspension, does it look like that corner is sagging?

if the noise came as soon as you installed the different size tires i would have to say the tires are hitting ( too big ) ??

if noise came after a while than chk the suspension as it waa adviced .. chk the struts and springs .. measure the height on both sides from a level ground to the fender above the tire

thanks for all the advice everyone.

i did speak with this knowledgeable guy about the tires before i bought them and he said the tires shouldn't have been a problem tho.

deserthonda: the noise came as soon as we installed them.

mxs: yes it DOES slightly sag on that corner.

so.. how much $$ would suspension run me? parts/labor

i think something is either coming loose or like a rear spring is shot and sagging farther down than it should be
