screeching noise when turning left
I have a 2000 civic lx, and when turning left, there is a screeching noise coming from the front driverside wheel area. It's almost like a metal on metal sound. However, if I apply the brake while turning, the screeching noise doesn't occur. The faster I'm moving while turning, the louder the screeching noise. Does anyone know what may cause this? I've taken the tire off and checked the caliper, break pad, cv boot, tie rod, etc, and nothing visually appears broken.
Thanks, Z |
RE: screeching noise when turning left
it sounds like the wear indicator on the brake pads. take off the calipers and physically look at the pads, sometimes they will look ok from the outside, but be worn out when you pull them off. you can bend the wear indicator back a little, but, this should be a VERY temporary fix. get them replaced ASAP if that is the problem, or they could ruin your rotors as well.

RE: screeching noise when turning left
Could it be related to power steering? Not sure about the terminology but as you get towards full lock the power pack has more fluid to discharge whcih may mean a drive belt has to transfer more energy that in normal operation. Does it screech when parked up?

RE: screeching noise when turning left
The brake pads are fine. I already checked them. When the brake is pressed, the noise does NOT occur, therefore, I wouldn't think it would have anything to do with the wear of the pads.

RE: screeching noise when turning left
It only screeches while turning left in motion. It does not occur when parked.
