Does the secondary 02 sensor do anything besides detect clean air after the cat? Does it effect the way your engine runs?

 

The Primary O2 sensor is the final feedback signal for fuel control.

The secondary O2 sensor shoulddo nothing to control your engine. It onlytries to verify the proper activity in the catalyst. Its not actually measuringCLEAN air...

Theres actually quite a few sensors that do nothing except verify that the smog equipment is working. Thats the big difference with OBD-2.

 

So basically I should not really worry about the secondary 02 sensor not being hooked up.

 

no withut the secondary sensor hooked up you wil get a CEL. If you don't want it hooked up, you'll need an o2 simulator to trick your ECU.

and yeah all it does it measure your cat's efficiency.

 

or what i did when i installed my header was plugged in the secondary O2 sensor and because i need an 02 with longer wires i just tucked it behind my headlight and it reads fresh air all the time and i have no check engine light...been runnin it this way for about 6 months now with out problems

 

^ never heard of that, but if you don't have a CEL i gues you can't complain.
