hmm, my corner lights had a thick blue coating in the wire connectors. is that corrosion?

That is grease the factory applies to try and stop corrosion. Usually the problem is corrosion of the metal part of the socket that holds the shell of the bulb. That causes the bulb to lose its ground, and then some strange interactions happen.

Put something heavy on the brake pedal so the brake lights stay on. Go to the back and make sure all the brake lights are lit at full brightness. If one is dim or out, take the socket out and wiggle the bulb. You may need a new socket to get a reliable connection.

well while i had my mas friend install the corner lights he checked it out and there was oxidization so he sanded em up and then put the lights and it worked haha. guess there was no need for new sockets. ($ saved) thanks for the help i told him to check if it was corroded.
