Some Lowering Questions
Hey guys,
I am looking to lower my 98 Civic Hatch (1.4). I have been looking around at some documentation and different methods.
Now, looking on eBay, I came across THESE. For some reason though they are so much cheaper than all the others. I guess this is because they don't come with the actual shocks.
I guess what I'm asking, is should I use just this kit? Or buy one including matching shocks - something like THIS?
Thanks for your help!

i have a 93 civic coupe ex, i put the SKunk2 coilover struts & springs on. this was the best choice i made! it made the car feel and handle so much better! when you put the struts on
as well as the lowering spring it help dampen and support the springs while driving and turning!
doing the coilover and springs all at once is a bit more expensive but it is easyer in my opinon.
the struts are out, you put the springs on, take out old ones, put new ones in, done!
i'm new to honda's but from what i have seen, the best coilover's are the Skunk2 and TEIN set
up's. good luck!!!

Thanks Aaron. How much did you pay for those? Do you think you could direct me to a good set on eBay?
- So the strut is the damepning peice going through the middle of the spring to stop it bounding around.
- The springs are obviously the springs which contain the struts.
But what are they coilovers?

a coilover system like the one you found on ebay is a replacement for the stock springs... you use them with your stock struts... the advantage is they are adjustable, just remember you get what you pay for... i bought a set of megan coilovers for about $120... however i have kyb struts that i'm using, not my stock ones
the danger of using your stock struts when you are lowering a car is the risk of blowing it out. you cant lower the car too much or it will create too much pressure within the strut and the stock strut wont be able to handle it, depending on how low you want to go. plenty of people on this site have lowered their car on stock struts, but you cant expect to lower it 3 inches and the stock struts be ok
edit: the tein or skunk2 set will cost you upwards of $700

no you dont need to pay that much.... if you are looking at a good midrange set... the tokico hp, or the step up to the tokico illumina would be good. i've heard nothing but good about tokico... also roto has/had the dropzone system and was happy with it, these sets will both be under $500
