Default Speedo problems

Hey guys, I have a 96 hatch cx and the speedo dosen't work, engine light is on and I don't thinf the gas gauge works either. Now when I rev the engine the speedo moves a little. I must have a bad sensor but why would that effect the gas gauge. I am a little worryed because I had a 97 coupe dx and I had some what the same problem but it wasn't charging the battery either. But on the 97 the speedo would work then it would stop and at that same time it wouldn't charge either. Ant have this problem before???

96 civic ex... I had a 91 accord and that happened to me. I was told that to check my speed sensor in the gauge cluster and that was not it because it was working fine. I was also told to check my cruise control unit, mine was out on that car, after replacing it everything went back to normal. Some Ideas I hope that it helps
