Squeaking Belt

Tonight while at work, one of my belts was squeaking. When I tried to drive off to see if it would stop, the car stalled. The car is in great shape, except for the A/C, it doesn't work. Would I need a new belt? The air filter is also very clogged, not sure if that has anything to do with it though.

Were you able to restart after it stalled?

Take the A/C belt off if it is still there. The bearings in the compressor and idler pulleys turn all the time the engine is running even if A/C is not on, and the bearing could have gone bad.

Of course a new air filter would be worth it too. That's not going to cause squeaking though.

definatly clean ur air filter or get a new one... that isnt good for ur motor, it blocks airflow. they have a spray called belt dressing, just coat ur belt with that and it will stop the squeeking..

Air filters of the stock paper type should not be cleaned; throw it away and replace with a new one. Trying to clean it with compressed air can blow small holes in the paper that will let dust into the engine.

I removed the a/c belt and now it runs fine. Got a new air filter too! Thanks for the help.
