Default Steering Wheel Vibrates and Shakes After Certain Velocity is Reached

Hey guys, as the thread title says.. Once I reach about 100 km/h my steering wheel starts vibrating and shaking. When I get to about 110 - 115 km/h it still vibrates and shakes but not as harsh. To be honest it makes me kind of nervous when I am on the highway because I have no idea what it is.. I don't know if it is a serious issue or not.

What do you guys think is causing this problem? IF you know or are damn sure what it is, how much does it usually cost to fix? Is it possible to fix yourself. I kind of enjoy working on my car is I can save money.

first thing I would do is drive to a good tire shop and explain. Likely you lost a wheel weight, which happens often enough. If they're half way competent, they'll also check your tires for separating belts or any other damage/defect that would cause the vibration.

CHances are good (90% or better) its just a wheel weight.

Car could just need an alignment?
Wheels need balancing?

I bet your tires are out of balance or you have a bent rim. Take it in and have them check your tires.

+1 good call on the bent rim. But a good tire shop would check for that as well if they are checking for a separated treat/wheel out of balance symptoms
