technical problem?
So I have a 1998 honda civic, automatic with 149000 miles. This morning as I was pulling into work my car just shut off on me. The lights were still on the radio still playing ect. So I dont think there is any problems with the battery. So when it shut off on me I put the car in park and turned it off. When I went to re-start the car it would not start. But after a few minutes it started right back up with no problems. Does anyone know what may have caused this?
When it is not working look at the dashboard and see if the "oil" and "battery" icon lights come on. They should be on whenever the key is on but the engine is not running. If they don't come on you probably have a bad ignition switch (the switch that the key turns). It is a different circuit through the switch that turns on the radio. So the radio may still work even though the engine is being cut off.
Yes all the lights on the dash were on like as if you were going to start the car. I just had the ignition switch changed about two months ago. The reason being was that there was a recall on it. Do you think it could be the coil? I just dropped it off at the honda dealer to see if they can find the problem. I just hope its not going to be to much to fix.
