Default Thinking about purchasing a Civic with bad engagement clutch in transmission

There is a 98 honda civic with 90k for 3900 bucks at the local dealer but the dealer stated it has a bad engagement clutch in the trans but is fine to drive. Would this be a smart purchase? It is going to be doing a lot of commuting and not a lot of city driving.

Thanks for your help.

3900 for a car that has a clutch/transmission problem. No. If the car is exceptionally clean (no accidents, perfect paint, no rust) I can see paying 2900 for a car with a clutch issue. With 90k, it is probably the stock clutch that is now ~15 years old giving problems. If they can replace the clutch for you and correct the problem, then I would consider giving them the asking price.

Stay away from that car..

If it an easy fix, dealer would already fix it and would sell it for more. I think it beyond what it worth to fix so they wana get rid of it AS IS.
