Default Throttle position sensor

My buddy's got a 99 civic ex. Lately its been bogging down and we took it to the honda dealership said it was his throttle body position sensor. They said he would have to replace the whole throttle body. They said it would run him around 900 bucks without labor. Any input on just replacing the sensor or should he really replace the whole throttle body?

You sure that the TPS is actually bad? Sometimes the techs don't know what they are doing, so i'm always a little skeptical especially if they don't explain to you how they know something is bad. $800 to change a TPS is way too expensive, you could change the TB yourself for a lot cheaper. You could even get a bigger TB a pick up a HP or 2.

You can take a TPS out. The things that hold them in are screws they just do not have a head for a wrench or a screw driver to fit into. Take a dremel and slice a lil place in it to use a flat tip screw driver and screw them out. you will need to calibrate the new TPS though.

4.5v at WOT
1.5v at closed throttle

Check ebay for a TPS though.
