Too much oil. Need help by tomorrow.

My brother said oil was leaking cause when I pull out there is oil on the driveway. I checked the oil and it was at the low mark. So I bought some oil and put 1qt. I checked the oil and it was passed the high mark. Probably like this O//////O///// So now Im worried theres too much oil. Is there any problem with leaving it like that? Or should I take it to the place I changed my oil so they can let some drain out. I dont know how to do it myself so I was gonna just ask them if they could drain a little.

You have to let the oil reach the bottom. Give it a couple minutes and then check it again. If its still past that second hole..then your going to have to drain some out. Did you check the dipstick to see how low it was before you put more oil in it? If so...where was it marked?

Oh I mentioned that. I checked the oil on the dipstick and it was on the low mark. Like this //O O I put in 1 qt of oil then it looked like this //O/////O//// I know its suppose to look like this //O/// O And I checked the oil the next day and got the same reading.

Yea. Some1 on here has mentioned that running the motor with to much oil can do some damage to the motor. You can try to drain some out yourself. Its real easy. Put the car on jack and stand. Get under the car. There's a bolt at the bottom of the oil pan. Just loosen that and let some drain out. But if you are not sure of doing it. Some1 more knowledable then me can answer your question if it is okay to run the car the way it is.

Drain the excess oil until the level is at the full mark.

Yea, do that.

Make sure when you are checking the level of the oil that the car is level, otherwise you will not get an accurate reading on the dipstick.

yea..if its over filled you better drain some out as it can really damage the engine..puts more strain on parts...and can cause premature wear on the engine parts...well good luck...

What happens is that if you have too much oil (to a certain point... a little bit extra won't hurt) is the crank will sit in the oil, and it will churn the oil. Churning the oil will make it foam, and you will prematurely blow out crucial oil seals in the block such as the rear main seal.

So do you guys think that an extra 1 qt of oil is too much in the car? Where is the drain plug located on a honda prelude 99? Is it hard to drain a little bit out?

if you were at the low mark and you added a quart you're probably only .25 quarts high. I wouldn't even worry about it unless you're sure there's more than an extra .25 quart in there.
